Set against the exotic background of the Bahama Islands and drawing upon their stormy history over a period of almost 140 years, Wind From The Carolinas tells the story of how the wealthy, aristocratic families from Georgia, the Carolinas, and Virginia, who, after the American Revolution, remained loyal to King and Crown, abandoned their plantations and established new dynasties in the friendlier climate of the Bahamas, where England offered them huge grants of land.

These emigrants, among them Ronald Cameron and his family, embarked on the strangest of adventures. Taking with them everything they owned, they planned to recreate on these sun-washed islands the gracious plantation life they had known before the Revolution.

The early years of settlement were full of hard work and fraught with unexpected trials and dangers. But Wind From The Carolinas is more than an action-packed tale of adventure. It is also a story of grief and heartbreak, for the Bahamas would not produce cotton on the scale imagined and with the failure of the plantations came poverty and ruin. But Ronald Cameron was a stubborn Scot as were his children and descendants. Each generation, in turn, was forced to meet the challenge of adversity and seek means of triumph from the tragedy of the early years, to running the blockade in the War Between the States, and finally, during the era of Prohibition, running the rum which once again brought prosperity to the Bahamas.
